What I admire most about sage is its intricate look and feel- the soft, unique texture in the leaves remind me of suede. They're waterproof, fragrant, soft, and elegant. It grows quickly and abundantly!
There are several species of sage- all medicinal. They all carry similar benefits and can be used in various ways, but this blog will focus on Common Sage.

As strange as this may sound, I feel that all plants have a feminine or masculine energy. Sage is masculine, and most of the mint family is masculine as well. It's properties are strong, dominant, and effective, but as a plant structure, it is also resilient. Sage is one of few herbs that cater to male sexual and hormonal health, which we will discuss more in this article.
Medicinal Properties and Characteristics
Anti-bacterial
Anti-Microbial
Anti-Mutagenic (prevents mutations, irregularities, etc)
Anti-Septic
Lowers Glucose Levels
Improves Memory
Helps stop neuropathic pain
Digestion or Indigestion:
Sage is often used in cooking as a spice. This is probably the most popular way to ingest it as the leaves are somewhat bitter to taste when raw or by themselves. It is often cooked with meats that are rich and/or fatty because not only does the flavor compliment the meat, but it also aids in digestion of the rich meat and fat (steak, sausage, any type of pork, venison, etc.) The Stimulating properties help break down the meat and fat and moves it through the digestive tract. It is good for easing constipation and supporting colon health! I would suggest even adding a bit of sage to any sort of digestive detox.
Hair Growth:
Stimulating properties promote hair growth by circulating the blood in the scalp
Quick Healing For Your Wounds:
We haven't talked much about poultices and compresses yet, but soon you will be familiar and acquainted with how to cure cuts, wounds, and lacerations. Sage is known for quickly healing open wounds by fighting infection and rushing blood to the site of the wound to immediately start coagulation (scabbing).
Regulates Hormones In Both Men And Women
For Men: Prevents premature ejaculation and regulates testosterone levels
For Women: Eases and regulates menstrual cycle and flow. Eases menopause symptoms like heat flashes, brain fog, and mood swings
Sore Throat:
Though the taste is not the best, a throat rinse with sage will ease your sore throat symptoms thanks to the anti-biotic, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory-like properties!
Warning: Sage belongs to the mint family and is generally considered safe for everyone, however, if you are a nursing mother please avoid this herb. It is known to significantly slow milk production in nursing mothers. In retrospect, you may also use this as an aid to help clear your milk ducts if you are looking to stop breast feeding.
